An Abomination

Is what www.Beatlebobsitdown.com is.

Let's see, at the Decemberists concert, you have a bunch of aging hipsters sitting off to the side, drinking gin and tonics at a music venue, and making catty comments about the younger hipsters.

At the Kings of Leon at Mississippi Nights (the Kings blow, by the by) you have a bunch of ex-football players knocking the girls over beating the shit out of everyone near them.

At the Killers concert, you have Brandon Flowers exhibiting his "talent" so that the dipshits in the crowd who think this music is revolutionary are the least of your problems...

and you're worried about the one guy who's actually having a good time, actually doing what is expected of someone at a concert venue?

I understand Bob has cut a wide swath in this country, but he is a St. Louis institution, and he's the one symbol that isn't indicative of the parochial, alcoholic smallness of this little big town. He's the only white person white people are afraid to approach in St. Louis. You know something is a pretty big deal if Beatle Bob is there.

Ah, what do you expect of a populace that looks more kindly on Andy Van Slyke than it does Bob Gibson?

Where does Mr. Beatle Bob purchase his attire?

From Phil Spector's evidence bag.

You forget that at the Decembrists show there were also healthy cynics offering insightful comments such as "My Heart Hurts," at poignant moments.

Nobody looks more fondly upon Van Slyke than Gibson, don't invalidate points by making silly inaccurate observations.

Dancing and knocking into people while looking dangerously similar to a murderer is not cool or chic. It is annoying. Who goes to a concert to dance? No one. How does it then become the thing you are supposed to do? You can't dance to rock, that is why white people play and listen to it. You just come off looking like some form of tragic reproduction of an Aha video.

Also, chief, in your argument against PJ and doubting the ability to count great albums on one hand: 1, I think you are wrong, 2, of the bands you cite to counter our misguided brothers, only Wilco has more than one great album.

Grace by Buckley is only alright. 2 great songs, 1 he didn't even write.

Your allegiance to Pearl Jam clouds your judgement. Eddie Vedder's posturing as a latter generational Neil Young is as sad as it is bewildering. All of Super Furry Animals' CDs are outstanding and far more expertly played and inspired than anything of the previous generation. These CDs include Guerilla, Radiator, and Rings Around the World, which stand as three of the best albums of the past ten years. Interpol and the Strokes may have a masterpiece ahead of them, to go with two stellar albums already, respectively. And in terms of artistic vision, I'd put Broken Social Scene's one proper album ahead of PJ's entire discography.

And while Bob Gibson may be more popular, it would be hard to argue that St. Louisans are fonder of Ozzie Smith than Van Slyke. There are still people here who would want Kurt Warner to start QB.

At last, perhaps you will agree with me, Jamie posed his bullshit music argument merely as a means to prove his age group - read, his - inherent superiority in an already subjective field. It is self-implicating and egomaniacal of him to have said such a thing. That said, he's living in the past. Pity him.
